pee in your face, big disgrace

Being that it's closing in on 100 degrees this week (and no, I'm not complaining, I'm clinging onto it like my Tivo remote on Biggest Loser night... because I live in Minnesota and I know snow will fall probably by September).

But being hot, I'm seeing little Edy's diaper hanging out of her sundresses more often. It is adorable (period).

It reminds me though, of a story about how my mother's mother use to put her pee-filled diapers on her face as a baby. I've been told, it's some old wives' tale for clear skin.

My mom could have done the same to me, I'm not really sure, it's one of those things she seems to brush over with one of her famous 'sounds like a plan' answers; the kind of answer she gives when she's not really listening to you.

(And Mom, it's nothing against you, hang up the phone. We all have these defense mechanism in the survival of motherhood. We all need to zone out once and a while to save ourselves. Mine is usually more of a nodding of my head, maybe throw in some 'umms' too).

Back to pee in your face.

Is this weird to anyone else?

Anyone else traumatized in a similar fashion?

(Or maybe it's just my family.)

Finally, a post I can put a picture of my naked baby's butt, and it's sort of relevant.

I've heard that too! Women will do strange things in the name of beauty.

I actually have heard of this only because I am Cajun and you've never met a group of people with more weird home remedies and wives' tales than my family! So you are not alone, haha! How cute is that sweet baby?! So precious!

I have heard of (and tried at age 16) an egg white mask, but have never heard of the pee thing. It is lucky I am just now hearing this, because as a desperate and pimply teenager (with huge bangs!) I am sure I would have tried it. As it turns out, mother nature can have a big laugh because by the time I had more baby pee than you could shake a stick at, my skin was finally clear.

I have never heard that. And considering it was probably a cloth diaper that would be quite the expereince.

Weird yet normal b/c I grew up with a grandmother who di dit. Babies are considered pure so surely their pee must be too. Right? She swore by it (although she wanted it "fresh" and I've yet to determine, all these years later, what that actually meant. Sit the baby upon her face to pee fresh? Let the baby pee into a cup fresh? Or use cloth instead of disposable diapers fresh?). "It's like an astringent you'd find in People's" she'd say. And me being all teenagery: "Um, when People's starts selling pee I'll be shopping elsewhere).

That is very very strange. Hope your mom doesn't feel too bad about the apathetic listening. My mom used to fall asleep on me when I'd tell her about my day after school. Seriously. I would wake her up and just keep going on. To her credit, I would go on and on and on and on. What was a tired working mother to do? I love my mom all the same!

I've never heard about the beauty benefits of baby pee. Kinda (and by kinda I mean really) gross.

P.S. Edy is so freaking cute!!!

:::giggles::: So, what is it really, about a naked baby photo? I think we've all had that pose before. But, still, darling!!!! Cute cheeks! [the ones with the dimples...well, the ones on your face. LOL *wink]

Be that as it may, pee filled diapers on a face? Oh lordy. I just can't picture me doing anything like THAT!!!

Thanks for popping by this week. Hope to see you again real soon. I love having your company.

A River To Cross is my Thursday post.

Too freaking cute! Oh, I was so distracted by Edy's butt that I almost forgot to mention I love that song. I'll never think of the lyrics the same way again (uh, thanks?).

The other day while doing my best smile and nod with a few randomly placed mm-hmms, Mad (age *three*) caught on and scolded me. "Use your words, Mama! Use your words.")

I've heard breastmilk to cure bad skin, but never pee.

What I have heard is that if you get the mask or marks on your face when you have a kid, that you should take their pee and put it on your face?!?!

Are you sure it was for clear skin? I'm thinking maybe you get some sort of buzz from the ammonia fumes, thereby drowning out the low hum of loud irritating children.

Wait. Did I say that out loud? Damn.

I'm totally NOT trying that breathe-deeply into a pee-filled diaper thing. Because that would be weird.

In other news, your baby just about the cutest thing I've ever seen and her name is wonderful.
